21 Things I’ve Learned | Birthday Post

2017 has been nothing but good to me so far and I’m nothing but grateful. Before I started the year, I made a vision “board”, labeled it as the year of “growth” and placed it in the back of my Passion Planner. What I put on it for this year has slowly been getting crossed off.  On June 13th I turned 21 and I feel like my journey is just getting started. There’s been an immense amount of growth in just these six months and I’m ready for what this chapter of my life is going to bring.

Here are 21 things I learned at 20:

1.My comfort zone is not where it’s at

2. I don’t call the shots, God does

  3. Not everyone is going to see your vision they way you do

4. What I want is tied into what I believe

5. What’s for me will not go pass me

6. It’s important to be aware of the things that give me life

7. Relationships with my family and friends is extremely valuable

8. Always, always, always count my blessings

9. It’s important to be specific when it comes to what I want

10. Writing things out helps me to see my vision clearer

11. There is power in speaking things into existence

12. Self-doubt will kill my dreams

13. I have a voice that needs to be heard

14. Struggles are just blessings in disguise

15. It’s important to listen to the stories and lessons from your elders

16. Always lend a helping hand no matter how busy

17. It’s important to know my Jamaican culture just as much as my African American

18. Shrinking myself for someone else’s comfort will only hurt me

19. Being mindful of negative self-talk is a tremendous help

20. You will always reap what you sow, so continue exuding love

21. I am enough

I’m excited to see what this year brings.

These lessons are true to every young girl I can think of. The one about shrinking for someone else’s comfort is a learning experience can mostly relate to! I have been in situations myself where others will try to undermine my words or efforts because they simply feel like their the one in the right. Thanks for sharing your insight!

Yes, I’ve had the same experiences. As you get older you realize that pleasing others isn’t what’s going to help you and it’s extremely important to know this to live your life wholeheartedly. Thank you for reading!
