16 Favorite Bloggers of 2016 | Life
Just like that 2016 has come to an end. It’s been a long year and though it’s been rough, I’m actually happy with how far I’ve come with my blog. I attended a lot of events, met new bloggers, gathered great advice, and my blog turned 1! This was the year of figuring out what works for my blog and what I want to do. I went ahead and bought my domain name and in a way re-branded. I’m proud of myself for pushing through with my blog, even though I wasn’t as consistent as I should’ve been, because I’m pretty sure if I was who I was when I first tried to blog I would’ve given up probably 1 month in. But enough about my blog, let me get into this post!
This year I came across many great blogs and decided to put together a list of my favorite blogs that I have constantly read throughout the year and that I feel should be read by many others. Some for inspiration, some for entertainment; I enjoyed each and every one.
Here is my list:
A lifestyle, wellness + beauty blog run by the lovely blogger Breanna. I ran across this blog one day when I was on my search for more blogs to follow. Breanna takes you on her journey through life in her recipe post, products reviews, and her self-care posts just to name a few. Each one let’s you in on her progress and I took away a lot of great advice from her platform.
My favorite travel blog! Run by Jamaican native Shea Powell, this blog will have you feeling as if you’re at the destination with her. Not only does she leave you with beautiful pictures and post about her time spent, but she also gives tips for new and experienced travelers so you can know what to prepare for if you plan on taking a trip. When I begin traveling I will definitely keep her blog in mind.
Shea is keeping it real through her posts on living in Miami, self-care, her vlogs and so much more. This year I was able to meet her during a Black Bloggers United meetup and she is honestly the funniest person I’ve met this year (especially on Snapchat). Not only does she run a blog, but she also sells t-shirts dedicated to us bloggers and vloggers (here).
For all my naturalistas, Comfy Girls With Curls takes us through her natural hair journey and also her beauty finds. Not only do you learn about her journey but you also can read up on the journey’s of others through her interviews that she does for Project Natural. Definitely a blog to add to your list.
This blog is for the fashion addicts. A Dose of Fab is ran by Zaria who is a fashion addict herself. She uses her love of fashion to give her readers posts, or what she likes to call ‘prescriptions’, on outfits that she puts together. I love how she switches up her style and isn’t afraid to have fun with it. Definitely a fashion blog to follow.
Dedicated to fashion and life, What Demi Wore is always slaying in her post. I love her fashion sense and that’s what initially drew me to her blog. I eventually began to read more of her life posts and love her blog even more. This blog is a must on your list if you’re into fashion and advice.
Filled with posts on fashion, beauty, life tips and motivational podcast, Mattieologie is one of the blogs that keeps me going. This is a blog I go to mainly for inspiration on how to keep up with my blog because let’s be honest, it’s not easy. Mattieologie is filled with many great courses and posts that help guide you to becoming and better blogger.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Aphiwe this year for my Phenomenal Woman project and have been following her blog ever since! I never thought that I would be interviewing someone all the way from South Africa and it was a great experience getting to know her. All Things Nzuri (Swahili for beautiful) focuses on beauty, fashion and lifestyle. I always enjoy reading her posts.
One of my blogging highlights of this year was the meetup that was held in downtown Miami hosted by Victoria founder of Black Bloggers United. She has made a lot of big moves this year from re-branding from The Budget Divaa to She’s Candid to hosting meetups to help bloggers better their content and grow as a blogger; she definitely has a blog you want subscribe to.
Here to motivate and inspire, Marikah came up with what she likes to call her ‘freestyle’ blog Keeping Up With MJ to do just that. Fashion, lifestyle, blogging tips, reviews, she has it all. What I love most about her blog are the motivation posts. There are few that have kept me going and they are a must read!
Consider Sebastien as your virtual gay bestie! I recently came across his blog when I saw one of his podcast and I love it. Amazing fashion and lifestyle posts by someone with a great personality. Not only does he blog, but he also shares his life through his vlogs and story times on YouTube.
I’ve just discovered this amazing blog during a Twitter chat. Dedicated to empowering Black woman to care for themselves especially when it comes to self-love, mental health, wellness and health. I love what this blog is for and support it 100%. It’s always important to touch on certain topics even though some may be uncomfortable and this is a blog that lets you know that it’s okay not to be okay.
Formerly known as Quirky Brown Love, Quirktastic is a blog that is here for us quirky millennials of color (no we weren’t forgotten). You find posts on tech talk, cosplay + comics, life, entertainment and so much more. I’m loving the new look on this site and her reason behind why she re-branded. So for the quirky black girl and guy just know that there is a blog here for you!
Dedicated to helping men and woman better their wardrobe and it has done just that. Founded by Donovan, The Posh Standard allows photographers and models to come together to create bomb content. I enjoy seeing the content created on this blog and can’t wait to see where it goes in the new year.
Blavity is here for us Black millennials to be heard. Focusing on everything old and current in the Black community, Blavity gives the young generation a platform to voice their opinions and share their stories. I came across this blog in the beginning of this year and can hardly stay off of it. Seeing a community of Black millennials on this site here to make a change is amazing.
An inspirational blog for young Black women. xoNecole, formerly Necole Bitchie, has done nothing but inspire me this past year. She’s been very transparent through her journey of switching from a site that brought her so much success to ending up at the bottom when she decided to leave Necole Bitchie and start xoNecole. She continues to inspire me and many other young women of color through her posts on life, beauty, fashion, business, entertainment and so much more.
Hope you all enjoyed reading. Share in the comments below some of your favorite blogs of this year I would love to read them!
See you all in 2017!
